I’m in Southern California with my training group, and have been here since the 20th. We’ve been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Centre (US OTC) in Chula Vista this past week and it’s been awesome. I trained at the US OTC about five years ago for a Winter training group, so I knew, for the most part, what the facilities were like.
This place is just incredible. As an athlete, there is everything you could want, in one place. Beautiful 400m track with an inner jogging lane, 8 jumping pits, high jump area, and there was a total of 21 sprint lanes. Just insane! Most tracks don’t have full sprint lanes on both sides of the track, but the US OTC does!
On the walk down to the track, we passed a massive BMX track (see below).
We had some great sessions on the track. After this week, definitely starting to feel like the outdoor season is starting up. I know it’s going to come quickly – already so many meets lined up for the next few weeks starting off here in Cali with…
Saturday, April 27th: 100m and 200m at the University of California San Diego
Tritons Invitational (Meet schedule here, and results will be available here)
Sunday, April 28th: 200m at the University of California Irvine
Steve Scott Invitational (Meet schedule here)
Definitely looking forward to these meets! This trip down to Southern Cali is actually my sixth time competing down here, and my seventh trip total. Let’s hope for Lucky Number Seven!
Update coming soon!
