So this past weekend, I opened up my indoor season at the Windsor CAN AM meet. Last year, I had to miss the CAN AM meet because I slipped on some ice my first day back in Toronto after training camp, and hurt myself (I then resented my Monday morning class for the remainder of the semester, haha). This year, I walked tentatively on icy sidewalks for the first week back in Toronto, before leaving for Windsor on Friday. We ran our first 4x200m relay of the year that night, but unfortunately just missed out on the CIS auto-qualifier (by 0.04 seconds). We'll be working to run faster splits individually, as well as have smoother passes so we can lock in our spot for the CIS in the 4x200m.
Next up, in just over a week is the 20th Annual McGill Team Challenge, where I’ll be in the 4x200m relay, the 300m, and the 4x400m relay. I’m definitely looking forward to the opportunity to improve my 300m time, and the relays, which are always fun. Just a few more workouts to make improvements before the McGill race, and I'm working - definitely feeling sore today after the past couple days of training.
If you don’t already keep a training journal, I highly recommend you do! It was a switch I made when I moved to Toronto in 2012, and I wish I’d started sooner. It is so great to be able to look back on workouts from the year before, and know you’re working your butt off and seeing direct results (faster interval times, heavier weights in the weight room, and finally, faster race times).
Hope 2015 is treating you all well!
