I was entered in the 100m and 200m, Claire entered in the 100m and Casey entered in the 200m. There were some seriously quick girls in our races. A few girls in my heat in the 100m were in the 11.4s, couple in the 11.7s. Conditions were a bit better than Copenhagen but still a bit chilly. I ran the exact same time - 12.01, and placed 4th, which was nice considering I had the slowest seed time....
My race overall was pretty good. My coach took a video of it but I haven't seen it yet so not sure how the race was technically, but I placed 3rd with 24.76 with negligible wind and finished pretty strong. All the 400 training has made the finish of my 200s a lot stronger. I had a pretty good start and was just trying to catch the girls that were in the outer lane. The winner clocked in with 23.39, quite far out in front of the rest of us. The girl in 2nd was mid 24s and I closed in on her in the last 100 but didn't get close enough. Still nice to come 3rd and get a small amount of prize money - not as much as Copenhagen though, but still.
Our groupie, Nigel, stopped over in Antwerp to come watch us race again. Super fun! We all got dinner provided from the meet and met a few athletes from Belgium. I met one guy who had actually been at the World Jr's when they were in Moncton. He was pretty stoked to hear I was from Canada.
Racing here has been a really positive experience, even if the times were't what I was hoping for. I definitely want to race over here in Europe again next summer. I'd especially like to go back to Copenhagen, and maybe see what other races work well together. I think doing 3 in 7 days worked well, especially since I'll be using vacation time. I'll really have to save up the vacation up for the competition season!
After a long season, I'm now taking 3 weeks off (1 week in Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin), 1 week in Portugal to see an old friend, and a week in Toronto, where I'm moving for a work opportunity. Then the base training will start up and I'm sure my new coach, Bob Westman, will be whipping me back into shape just like last fall. Not looking forward to that, Haha! But definitely excited to see all my old training partners from the U of T team when I was there last fall.
Ok - that's it for now! Thank you for the support over this season, and the past seasons. I'm so excited for 2013 and the opportunities another year will bring.
