Yesterday, the last 400m of my first season running 400s did not go as well as I was hoping. It was insanely hot. I don't think I've ever raced in temperatures like that - I'm talking over 35 degrees at 5pm at night. We left our apartment at 10:30 in the morning and got to the track around 3. We were super groggy so just chilled and rested for a while before starting to warm up for the race (body temps were definitely warmed up, haha)...
Positive note of the meet was that Olivia won the javelin with 44.02m! Prizes were a special case of 4 Belgium beers with 2 beer glasses. If she'd thrown it a little bit further, she would have also walked away with some cash as well - maybe next time!
Oh well - onto the next one! Tuesday I'm running the 100m in the Copenhagen Athletics Games. Claire will be competing in the long jump as well. We are flying into Copenhagen tomorrow in the evening and will be staying with a friend of my uncle. Really great to be able to save some money on accommodation that way. I swear, my family knows people everywhere! This meet has some prize money as well, so maybe we'll have some good conditions and be able to walk away with some money to spend on our day off in Copenhagen on Wednesday! Keep those fingers crossed.
Oh and if you have any suggestions as to what to do on our day off in Copenhagen, let us know!
I almost forgot to write about the train ride home! After some waiting around, panics about catching an earlier train (Claire and I were out wandering and Casey came running telling us we were catching an earlier train ... So sprinted back... And then decided not to .. ), 45 minute delays while waiting for a train ... We make it onto the delayed train and everything is fine until they make an announcement that the train is out of service and we need to transfer to another train at the next station. So we transfer ... We are sitting with some funny train conductor staff that are off shift with limited English, and then all of a sudden this young man with a broken guide cane comes up the stairs, opens up a camping chair, takes a full size keyboard out of a handmade case, and starts playing! Right next to me! It was hilarrrrrious. Went on for so long, and was so loud! Hopefully he made some good coin off of it.
